Equine Assisted Education
Equine-assisted education (EAE) is an experiential learning approach that incorporates horses into educational programs to facilitate personal growth, development, and learning. It combines principles of experiential learning, equine-assisted therapy, and equine-assisted activities to create a unique educational experience.
In equine-assisted education, horses are seen as powerful partners and teachers who can provide valuable lessons and insights for participants. The activities involve interacting with horses on the ground rather than riding them. Participants engage in various exercises, such as grooming, leading, feeding, and obstacle courses, which promote self-awareness, communication skills, problem-solving, teamwork, and emotional regulation.
The presence of horses in the educational process helps create a non-judgmental and emotionally safe environment. Horses are highly perceptive animals that respond to human behavior and emotions, providing immediate feedback to participants. Through these interactions, participants can learn about themselves, their communication styles, and how they relate to others.
Equine-assisted education is often used in diverse settings, including schools, universities, youth programs, leadership development, team building, and personal growth workshops. It can benefit individuals of all ages, including children, adolescents, and adults. The focus is not on horsemanship skills but on the lessons and insights gained through experiential activities with horses.
